SMALL URBAN POLLINATOR
GARDEN
CAMBRIDGE, MA
This tiny garden started out as a small, shallow strip of dirt, lacking in much value as it cooked in the full sun, was an invitation to neighborhood dogs.
The homeowners wanted something that was not only beautiful and contributed to the natural environment, but also wanted to protect their new plantings and solve the water issues they were experiencing with the two downspouts, pouring into the street.
To create the aesthetic and functionailty they were after, we removed the existing soil and installed a watertight barrier against the house. We then built a small, natural-looking stone wall around the side and front yard, enabling us to add a variety of pollinator-friendly seasonal plantings (and eventually a birch tree!) that would uptake the additional water.
This garden now teems with life and had become a neighborhood treasure.
