It's true! We love design and creating spaces that offer value to the environment around us. Gardener on the Hill tailors every landscape design to it's specific location, taking place, people and the planet into consideratoin. We buid our gardens as more than something to just look at, but as a place to reconnect with nature, restoring us, slowing us down and as a place to simply be.
VALUES WE UPHOLD DURING OUR DESING PROCESS
POLLINATOR FRIENDLY DESIGN
We rely heavily on a pollinator-friendly, native and post-native plant palate. (Yes, we do allow exceptions, provided the species shows to be neither invasive or harmful to the surrounding environment, requires llittle water to maintain and feeds local fauna.)
Nothing exists in a vaccume and we love to hear our clients' ideas and/or bring other experts in on the project if it seems fit.
Let's make conventional turf grass a thing of the past! There are a wide variety of different options including sedges and low-growing perennials that are more resilient and offer more value to the environment.
COLLABORATION IS KEY
GRASS ALTERNATIVES

SOIL SCIENCE IS EVERYTHING
We run soil tests for all of our gardens before the design phase begins. This enables us to choose plants best suited for the landscape and help us to understand why established plants my be suffering.
It is important to us that our gardens maintain beauty, structure and value even through the winter months. This means choosing a perennial palate that holds onto its seedheads, being mindful of stem composition and durability, as well as choosing grasses that hold onto their gorgeous colors and offer protection to birds and other animals throughout the cold season.
This sentiment speaks for itself! During the creation of our designs, we choose plants that capture light at sunset. Attract hummingbirds to your front window. And rustle brilliantly during a rainstorm.
